Aloud / allowed / loud


Aloud is an adverb. It means with ‘noise’ or ‘noisily’.
            They read the book aloud.
In this example, the word aloud tells how they read.

Allowed is the past tense of the verb to allow. It means ‘to permit or let’.
            We weren’t allowed to feed the animals at the zoo.

Loud can be used as an adjective, it means ‘noisy’.
            Jennifer Higginsbottom has a loud voice.

Loud can be used as an adverb. It is usually linked with the preposition out.
            Each morning the teacher read bits of the newspaper out loud.
